| Game type: Card game Author: Maureen Hiron Publisher: Out of the Box Medium: Small boxed game Players: 3-5 Game Length: 10-15 minutes Price: $9.95 Reviewer: Logan Masterson "QWITCHis the exciting game in which three to five players race to play cards in sequence." This is the claim made by Out of the Box Publishing, the makers of Qwitch, which I received to review as "Switch." The game's premise is simple— lettered and numbered cards are dumped as fast as possible. The rules are also simple— roll the special die and the first player to dump all his or her cards is the winner. The die itself is marked with and equal sign (=) a plus (+) and a minus (-). Once rolled, the first player to slam an appropriate card on the table sets the next card and so on. If a minus is rolled and the first card is revealed to be a D2, a player might throw out a C2 or a D1, and so forth. Once everyone has tossed their minimalistically illustrated cards rapidly and haphazardly onto the table play stops, everyone draws back up to their full compliment of five cards, and the next player rolls the die. The madness then continues. This game is listed as appropriate for ages 7 to adult, but let's face it any adult would have to liquor themselves back to a first grade reading level to enjoy this game. I think even seven-year-olds might find it dull, but at least it's fast enough to keep the mindless attention deficit disorder masses appeased. There is no strategy, no planning, just speed. To be frank, you might as well spend $1.99 on a cheap deck of playing cards and play "war" to your heart's content. DM's Call Ratings (out of five) | Playability |
