OA retains several of its old features, races and classes. Wu Jen, Sohei, Spirit Folk, Shape Changers, and even Honor is back. Those that had their own Asian flavored worlds or those that had campaigns in Kara Tur should be able to pick up where they left off. Those new to OA should have no trouble getting started with its wide versatility. There are new offerings in OA d20 as well. WotC purchased the intellectual rights to the Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) setting that was created by Five Rings Publishing and made popular in the L5R CCG. OA gives the L5R fan everything that he needs to start a campaign in the great empire of Rokugan. There are rules for creating Samurai and Shugenja from the seven great clans of Rokugan, as well as rules for Nezumi (Ratlings). OA also has rules for the various creatures of the Shadowlands, and for Taint and Bloodspeakers as well. There is no limit to the mixing you can do as well. Like the Idea of Ninja Drow, and Sohei Elves? Go for it. Add in what you want from your Occidental D&D or run a strait story-line L5R campaign but make the different clans also different races. The sky is the limit. Grey Elf Kakita duelists . . . nice. The tome is beautifully bound and its interior art is pleasing. I have come to expect excellence in the quality of the products that the new D&D line puts out. Each book seems to be better than the last. OA is no exception to this. Dungeons & Dragons is setting a new standard in quality for RPG products. If you're looking for an Asian flavored fantasy game, or if your wanting to delve further into the world of L5R using the comfortable D20 system, purchasing this book is a must.
